As we have been talking soooo much about school, university or work in the "On Your Mind"-Therad, I thought it would be nice to have a very own thread for it....to keeping it a bit more clear over there.
So here everybody can write what they are doing/studying/working etc. :)

I spend a lot of time doing day jobs with a lousy pay and it's driving me mad! What do I need all this money for if I'm not happy. Well, I am happy, but all this work drives me completely insane.

Languages are cool! :)

I just, more or less, finished my first semester at a University of Applied Sciences ( Haaga-Helia ) and when I am done I am a Bachelor of Business Administration, but I am studying in the Programme Multilingual Management Assistent. It's a pretty cool school (see the link, it's a video!) and also quite popular and many people wanna get into it.
Generally I really like it, but they focus a lot on group work and you actually just wish to do a project on your own. But yeah, it's like they say in the vide...through this group work they wanna make it as practical as possible and that's why we will have to establish a real company in our 2. year

Right now I'm studying Economics and Marketing at a University in hopes that one day I'll be able to manage/promote/or do something involving music and bands. (if I can't be in a band myself of course)

In the mean time I work a boring day job that barely pays the bills and drives me insane, but it is all leading up to something good, so I try to look forward into the future and keep my head up.

No, I never took school seriously, I was gonna be a rock star when I grew up :P. My poor mom, she must have been so worried all those years. But I think she's proud now :).

I'm in my last year of high school, going to university next year.
I'm studying about computers and stuff, although i got a lot worse in the past 2 years.
With current grades i would fail 6 out of 12 subjects.
I used to study for tests, now i just hand over empty test almost every time.
But there is time until May, it will be taken care of.

after I graduated I was as good as signed in into a biology course, when my mum convinced me to just send one portfolio into art school. I always thought I'd never be good enough but also I guess I thouht it wouldn't hurt. They didn't take me but while working on my portfolio I had realised really didn't want anything else.
So with alot of support of both of my family and my friends I made it to through the nerve wrecking, disappointing and exhausting time of applying to art schoo.
I got in in the end.

I study what we call communication design or visual communication, which is for many just a class for those that want to do something creative and artish with the chance of a giood job still, for me it's all I ever wanted. It basically means transferring complex information in a visual way as good as possible, and can include pretty much everything from information systems, advertising and book design.
When I started I thought I'd go in direction of illustrating with it, and it's still a dream that my illustartions will get some appreciation, butr meanwhile I discovered a big love for typography and bookdesigning. this includesn choosing types, finding the reight format etc... it's about finding the right way for a book to look in consideration of it's subject.
There is just something about letters and masses of that that fascinates me.

I work on freelance basis in a small advertising agency where I do stuff like calneders, restaurant menue crads etc,.. I hardly do design work there but correct stuff. considering I only do this to get some more money besides my student grant and it's like the worst thing the industry has to offer, but I still have so much fin there... I can't see how my live could ever suck again in that area :3

haha I could go on and on about how awesome everything is but I guess I already wrote a rant haha... I am REALLY REALLY fucking happy with what I do. I spend alot of sleepless nights because of it, it's nerve wrecking, damn hard work, and really gets you to the limits at times, but it is soooo worth it. I never had a moment of "was this right?" since I started. I justr always feel I'm not good enough, but my teacher actually think I'm good, sooo....

I can really really understand this :/ I worked some shitty jobs while applying, and besides getting thrown out of one, it was herrible, and you really shouldn't have to do this anymore!! I hope you can stop real soon!!
Don't let it grind you down please! you'll make it!

Wanna do the same, thats why I will choose to path of "organisational communication" and I will take some other courses form other Universities. I just applied for a Media/PR course and hope I can get into it...have to talk to my student counsellor next week and if she got notification of my enrollment there. Let's see if I can find some event management courses etc. :) That would be my "small" dream. If all breaks, I will just be come a so called "band-mutti" Of course for the guyz (Oh poor them!)

it is! esp. when you study an can just play around and try things out. I mean a whole lot of what I do right now is for exemple putting countries an map that is so abstarct as possible and test how long people actually recognize it as a map..
it's very interesting, alot of psychology involved, and yes very challenging.

People always wonder why I didn't do art or at least illustration, but while I love that I'd go insane because I wouldnt use my brian enough :P
also I just LOVE making things pretty and thats part of it too!!

Talking about shitty dayjobs, I had one year off school last year. I got a job trough NAV (those people paying unemployed people, etc), in the grocery store I work in now. When I worked there trough NAV, i got 300 nok per day. Now that I am hired by the store, I get a little over 130 nok per hour. Quite a difference. xD So that was really shitty. I worked seven hours every day (mon-fri), and was treated like all the other people working there (except for the money-part). Everybody felt sorry for me, except the bosses. xD

Well, I graduated from elementary school with really good grades actually, I remember that me and nine other pupils recived cinema tices from the headmaster in front of everybody at graduation for having the best grades, that was quite embarrassing.

In high school I studied computer technology, at first the same pattern with hard studies and good grades continued, but after about a year and a half I completely lost every once of motivation, so the grades went down really fast. Although I finished with a bit over average after all.

As for right now, I'm working as a computer technician at Volvo, Swedens biggest car corporation, and also the biggest employer here in Gothenburg, as well as I study history half time. The plan is to start studying full time this spring though, when I'll hopefully get into a course about the Swedish language. :)

I also "work" as a writer, as I'm putting all the time I don't spend at my job, at school or here (are there any left?) with writing a book. That's what I really want to do for a living, but it's such a long way there...
